Volkswagen Shows The Car It Did Not Want You To Have: The Golf GTI

When I helped Volkswagen launch its Golf GTI in 1976, Volkswagen wanted to make only 5,000. They wanted to make even less, actually, but 5,000 were needed for homologation as a racer. Volkswagen was convinced that no mentally stable person would be nuts enough to buy a little car like that with a 110 hp engine. Boy were they ever wrong. AutoCarUK reports that Volkswagen is pursuing plans to produce a sleeker and more practical version of its sexy Passat CC four-door coupe, called the CC Shooting Brake. According to this report, Volkswagen will be making the CC Shooting Brake from its versatile MQB modular architecture.

Tentatively set for a launch in early 2015, the CC Shooting Brake is said to be longer than the CC sedan itself and will fill the gap between the Passat and the flagship Phaeton.

Ogier triumphs in Rally Sweden as Volkswagen claims maiden victory – video

Wolfsburg – A milestone for Volkswagen in motorsport: Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia (F/F) have won the Rally Sweden at the wheel of the Polo R WRC. In doing so, Volkswagen has already far exceeded its own expectations of what is the team’s debut season in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).

In only its second competitive outing, the 315-hp World Rally Car from Wolfsburg emerged triumphant on the Scandinavian ice and snow against strong opposition – including nine-time world champion Sé…

Call Me Unmellow Yellow: 2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR Special Edition [2013 Chicago Auto Show]

As tribute to a special-edition 1970s Beetle that today’s younger VW diehards may only vaguely aware of, Volkswagen’s new Beetle GSR might not deliver the heritage punch the company has in mind. It should, however, appeal to older folks who remember the original Gelb Schwarzer Renner—“Yellow Black Racer”—and perhaps even people who just like their cars to resemble bumblebees.  READ MORE ››

More Power to the People: Volkswagen Updates Amarok Pickup Truck…Again

If it seems like only yesterday that Volkswagen introduced the 2013MY Amarok in Europe, it is because the latest version of the pickup truck was only just launched into the market in November.
