We’ve been impressed in the past by aerogel, a lattice-like solid that’s almost entirely made of air but can support weight and also has tremendous insulating properties. Then last year an ultralight metal caught our eye, weighing in at 99.99 percent air, which leaves 0.01 percent solid. Now we are excited to meet aerographite, a sponge grown of carbon nanotubes that’s the least dense solid ever: a cubic centimeter of it weighs just two ten-thousandths of a gram. The substance can also be compressed, sp…

Let’s get this out of the way up front: while we were huge fans of the last generation Honda Civic Si, we simply can’t warm up to the latest generation, now fitted with the 2.4-liter four from the Acura TSX. While we’re sure the new generation will prove to be plenty reliable, there was a magic in the previous generation car that’s simply lacking in the new one. The 2.0-liter Civic Si simply begged to be driven hard, while the new car just seems to put up with it. We always hated giving the key…

The Jaguar F Type, in pre-production camouflage
Jaguar’s history is tied to sports cars, something the British automaker hasn’t really built in the past few decades. That’s about to change with the introduction of the new F-Type, scheduled to hit the market in the middle of next year. Designed as a driver’s car and coming first in roadster form, the F-Type will be powered by a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 good for 380 horsepower, and there’s even talk of a V-8 for range-topping models.
As you …

Chrysler is under some scrutiny over in Europe after some folks over at AutoBlog discovered a video of a rather unique safety test. Within said video, some Swedish journalists at Teknikens Värld put a fairly top-spec Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland through the country’s special Teknikens Moose—or Elk in simpler terms—test, and some startling results were discovered.
The test has the SUV travelling at a rather modest 40 mph, where the driver then performs a very sharp and sudden evasive lane change ma…

“It thrills me, and it scares me… a little bit”. Those are the words of the mastermind behind the new Hennessey Venom GT, John Hennessey, when he drives his monstrous 1200 horsepower and theoretical 272 mph top speed concoction.
Matt Farah, as a kick off to the latest season of Tuned on the DRIVE network, gets the once-in-a-lifetime chance to strap behind the wheel of John Hennessey’s latest creation, the fastest car he has ever driven, the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder. Hit up the jump to view the…

D’oh! Someone at Omega Tool Corporation decided to produce a video extolling the virtues of its plastics tooling technology, likely in an attempt to gain more automaker business. In so doing, however, the Tier-1 supplier may have put a pretty big account in jeopardy: that of GM and, specifically, its new plastic-fantastic 2014 Corvette. It’s a car people have been dying to see, and that’s the way the General likes it. (That said, we know some stuff: Check out spy photos and more info…

Folks, it’s July 9th and that means it is finally time for Ken Block GYMKHANA 5.
“San Francisco was absolutely amazing for Gymkhana,” said Block. “It’s such a unique location for this kind of driving and allowed me to do some things that I never thought I’d ever be able to incorporate into one of my Gymkhana videos-like jumping a table top or doing a jump drift! I’m stoked with how this project turned out and I’m truly a lucky bastard to have been able to …

Scientists have spent years debating the origins of global warming; coincidentally, Subaru has spent years developing its front-engine, rear-drive sport coupe, the BRZ, with partner Toyota. At first glance, you’d be hard-pressed to link the 2.0-liter, 200-horsepower Subaru to such a dramatic shift in global climate, but as this video clearly points out, the BRZ has the ability to raise temps wherever it’s parked. To quote Paris Hilton (which, under normal circumstances, we’d never do), “That’…

Dual-mode exhausts are nothing new. The Corvette Z06, as well as a number of other European high-performance models feature the enthusiast ear-candy. But it’s not often you find them on a Japanese luxury SUV. Infiniti had a significant presence at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and among the hardware they had on display was [...]
