With every new automotive product comes the fine-tuned scrutiny of publications when they put them to the test. Case in point, Motor Trend recently put the new SRT Viper through its paces and pitted it against the current Corvette ZR1. They took it to the infamous Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway where the ZR1 came away with the over-all win at helm of the ever-so-consistent driver Randy Pobst.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 is the next 911 model to make its debut in the United States, and like the Type 991 versions of the 911 Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, it’s a better car in every regard than its (admirably quick) predecessor.
Out back, the 3.8-liter flat-six engine now benefits from direct injection, while receiving a stratospherically-high (for a production automobile engine, anyway) redline of 9,000 rpm. It cranks out 475 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque, sending this t…

Christian Von Koenigsegg poses with his company’s gearbox

If you have a passion for driving, especially on a track, you know how key a role the transmission plays in generating low lap times, especially when you’re talking about a transaxle with an embedded differential.
The differential is what allows you to get the power from the transmission (and engine, obviously) to the ground. An open differe…

In five days, the 2013 Formula One season kicks off with the Rolex Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, Australia. Fans will see quite a few changes from last season, beginning with the cars: in an effort to level the playing field, certain technologies (such as blown diffusers, which routed exhaust gas to create additional downforce) will be banned by the 2013 competition rules.
That should up the number of teams running at the front of each race, meaning that the championship won’t be just a battle …
