It is a rare case when automakers introduce a racing version of a vehicle prior to the production model. One of those isolated instances occurred in November when Chevrolet revealed their NASCAR Sprint Cup Series challenger for 2013 and beyond. In the guise of purpose-built stock car trim decorated with unique team sponsorship and graphics, the Chevrolet SS provides promise of a rear-wheel drive specialty sedan based on the Australian brand Holden’s VF Commodore. As the 2013 NASCAR Sprint…

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into 2012 Nissan Versa sedans over concerns with the small car’s front air bags.
The safety agency says Nissan discovered pinched wiring in the steering wheel, which could possibly short-circuit and prevent the air bag from deploying during a collision in the Versa.
NHTSA’s Office of Defect Investigation has opened a preliminary evaluation into the issue to determine if a recall of the estimated 100,000 Nissan cars is neede…

Nissan has unveiled the redesigned Note hatchback in Japan. It’s a world car that will replace the Versa hatchback in the U.S. market for the 2014 model year. As such, it differs significantly from the Versa sedan.
The entry-level Versa sedan was redesigned last year, with better fuel economy but chintzy interior, more noise and worse ride than the previous version. The Versa hatchback will compete with the Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta hatch, and Toyota Yaris.
The company revealed precious few details abo…

Nissan North America is recalling a small number of 2012 Nissan Altima and Nissan Versa sedans for issues with their side curtain air bags, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Nissan vehicles were made with air bag initiators that contain an incorrect mixture of propellants that may not inflate the safety devices during a collision.
Similar issues have been identified by the NHTSA and other manufacturers.
Earlier this month, the NHTSA announced a recall of 2011 To…

By Kevin Miller Nissan’s Versa has been a solid entry in the low-cost, entry-level car segment, with a base version of the first-generation Versa sedan actually claiming the title of cheapest car available with its $9995 base price. While that price didn’t include much standard equipment (like air conditioning or a radio), more expensive versions [...]

DIGITAL EDITOR ANDREW STOY: There really is no worse powertrain combo than a small I4 mated to a continuously variable transmission. Don’t come to me with the fuel-economy benefits or the smoothness or any of that garbage.

APPETIZERS: Life in the automotive B-segment can be piquant, almost zesty. Choose wrong, however, and you’re in for beans on toast.
In the automotive time/space continuum, life first pokes its head out of the primordial pea soup in the B-segment. Some of its denizens are slowpoke slugs with nubs for legs. Others are beginning to sprout wings and dazzling plumage. It’s a mixed bag, with the brightest of its Darwinian candidates evolving at light speed and with the dullest apparently content to l…

Do you have automotive tastes common among people of a certain age? Not a fan of huge wheels or firm seats? Want something economical? Meet the new 2012 Nissan Versa. Some small cars are comfortable with their small car-ness. Others, not so well-adjusted, put on airs well above their station. Like more than a few [...]
