October 2012 Sales: What the Headlines Don’t Tell You

Without argument, Hurricane Sandy was the news story for October, overshadowing even the final weeks of a presidential campaign. We made an early assessment of Sandy’s impact on the auto industry right after the storm passed, and anticipate continued ramifications for the next few months. Before the storm, though, October was a high-volume month, and the sales reflect it. Below, we dig into Honda’s efforts to clear out remaining stock of the 2012 Civic before the heavily face-lifted 2013 arrives a…

New "communicating" tires tell all!

Volt owners tell us they use even less gas than we do

Plug-in hybrids, such as the Chevrolet Volt, have potential for saving a lot of gasoline, something their loyal owners love to brag about. That’s what we’ve found among Web users on our own forums, where many are claiming they use even less gas than our formal tests have assumed.

Trackday Diaries: I can tell you how to win a Lemons race, but you won’t listen.

Click here to view the embedded video.
The inimitable Ross Bentley likes to say that every driver, at every level of wheel-to-wheel competition, is a team leader. It follows, therefore, that auto racing is a team sport. In any team sport, a good system beats a great talent at least nine times out of ten, usually more. Michael Schumacher won because he built great teams, not because he could do something behind the wheel that others couldn’t. The same is true of Jimmie Johnson in NASCAR, or of the A…

Is your car trying to tell you something?

Your car might not be able to converse with you in the literal sense, but it does have ways that it "tells" you that it needs repair – odd smells, strange lights, and warning signs among them. I have a list of ten of them that you can find at Sympatico Autos by clicking here.
