2014 Kia Cadenza Photos and Info: Diving Into the Entry-Luxury Segment [2013 Detroit Auto Show]

Late last year, Kia vice chairman Hyoung-Keun Lee said that the brand would be a genuine competitor to the established luxury automakers by 2017. That time frame seems rather ambitious considering that Kia has gone without a flagship here since the Amanti went out of production in 2010, and a competitive flagship since, well, ever. (The plan also seems ambitious because, well, just read it again.) And while the rear-drive Quoris/K9 is Kia’s range-topper in Korea, its derivative design and distant arri…

Hot News: Nissan Will Return to Hatchback Segment

Nissan will launch a direct rival to the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf in 2014, and will build it in Sunderland. It will be the first time the Japanese manufacturer has offered a new car in the European small family hatchback class since 2006, when the Sunderland-built Almera was withdrawn.Since then Nissan has marketed the Qashqai crossover, after it concluded in the early 2000s that it could only compete in the family car segment by offering something different. It subsequently applied the sam…

Spied! European Ford Minivan Mule – Should Ford Return to Minivan Segment?

Except for Chrysler, domestic automakers have abandoned the minivan market. Neither GM nor Ford sell a minivan in the U.S. because Americans would rather drive SUVs like the Chevrolet Traverse and Ford Explorer. Europeans, on the other hand, love their minivans, or MPVs. While GM and Ford offer an assortment of minivans in Europe, only [...]

Cadillac Proclaims CTS Coupe Segment Sales Leader, SRX Nips at RX’s Heels

“Four-door coupes” sell better than real two-doors in today’s marketplace. The reason why that happens usually comes down to practicality. Most buyers want to carry more passengers and gear. When you have more expendable income to kick around on a second car, it can be less of a concern.
The Cadillac CTS Coupe makes a bold statement in that regard. It is much more than a CTS sans two-doors. The standard CTS sedan and their V-Series counterparts are viewed as star products by the au…

Review: 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is a quality compact segment competitor

Gallery – 24 images

Never have I ever said anything spectacular about a Chevrolet product during my time on Earth thus far, halo cars Camaro and Corvette aside. And I thought this as I was playing the juvenile game with a couple of friends whilst trying to mack it with the girl sitting next to me – I guess this reassures that my auto enth…

Eterniti Motors Promises to Pioneer “Super SUV” Segment With Hemera

Despite a lot of noises to the contrary, a high-end exotic SUV has yet to be offered by any of the major manufacturers. Lamborghini produced the LM002 between 1986 and 1993, but nothing has come to fruition since then. Eterniti Motors, a British auto manufacturer, is aiming to be a pioneer of this segment. If you haven’t heard of Eterniti before, we can’t fault you – the company appeared out from out of nowhere in August, announcing its intentions to bring a concept to the Frankfurt Mo…

2012 Volkswagen Up! Official Photos and Info: How VW Hopes to Realign the Small-Car Segment

VW hopes to redraw the map of the small-car segment.
Finally, here’s a production car that looks like the concept from which it was derived. The Volkswagen Up! (yes, it includes the exclamation point) doesn’t deviate much at all from the show car that surprised the industry four years ago—at least not visually. Like that original, this final version will debut at the Frankfurt auto show.
