2013 Scion FR-S sports coupe starts at $25,000, priced less than Subaru BRZ

Scion today announced pricing on its upcoming, rear-drive FR-S sports coupe. The car will sell for $24,930 with a six-speed manual transmission and $26,030 with a six-speed automatic, factoring destination charges. That makes the FR-S less expensive than its mechanical twin, the Subaru BRZ.

The BRZ goes on sale in May, starting at $26,260 with a manual and $27,365 for an automatic. What accounts for the price difference between the cars is the standard navigation system with Bluetooth and HID headlamp…

With Sales Flagging, Scion xB, xD Get Cut

It’s a costly endeavor starting a new brand from scratch. Just ask Hyundai, which is reticent about spending the cash to launch a new luxury brand, despite the possibility of juicy profit margins. Scion has been an interesting exercise for Toyota. The Toyota brand itself has lost a lot of younger buyers. Scion was pitched as a way to fix that, positioned as an “experimental” division.
Roughly nine years later, Scion is announcing that it is cutting two models – the xB and xD….

Scion marketing iQ with Babes, Donuts and Milk

While its parent company often portrays a media presence as bland as a beige Corolla, Scion tends to lean more towards the fun side of life. For their latest campaign for the Scion iQ, they have taken the fun to a whole new level.
This newest campaign features bikini clad coeds, donuts(the edible kind), milk, the iQ and more donuts(the empty parking lot kind). Lest the feminist types get their panties in a knot, the spot has been replicated with some beefcake, bikers and of course the obligatory police….

We Have A Scion FR-S Price For Canada, So We Have A Winner!

Waaaay back in November, when we were fizzing like Lotsa Fizz with GT86 excitement we all took a crack at guessing the Canadian price for the Scion FR-S. The majority of the entries hovered around $30,000 and reasonably so given that its claimed competition is in that range. I even went so far as to make a wager with TTAC’s News Editor Derek Kreindler that it would cost more than a new GTI. Big mistake. Now I get backhanded next time we meet up.
The official price is…drumroll please…. …

Scion Announces Pricing for FR-S

After being teased with concept cars on the auto show circuit, the highly anticipated Scion FR-S is finally due to hit the showroom floor this spring. So what is the hype about? Well, the FR-S is the result of a joint effort between Toyota and Subaru. On the Toyota end, we are seeing a resurrection of the much-loved Corolla GT-S of the 1980′s, a simple front-engined, rear wheel drive sports coupe. Subaru’s contribution is evident in the use of a boxer four cylinder engine.
I’ll leave th…

2013 Scion FR-S Checks in At $24,390, EPA Releases Mileage Figures

It has gotten a bit hard to refer to the Scion FR-S, because it has different names all over the world. Here in the U.S at least, it will be sold as the Scion FR-S and Subaru BR-Z. They are both nearly identical. In this instance though, we think we’re content to let Toyota get a pass for rebadging. If this all turns out well in terms of sales, we think the development of this car will be a significant event in the history of Toyota. As has been reported (to death over the course of the past few ye…
