True, Russian dashboard cameras have afforded us hundreds and hundreds of spine-tingling accidents over the years, but we cannot honestly remember any as shocking as this one, and at the same time, ending on a happy note. Once again, the protagonist in this scene is driving a classic Lada / VAZ 2101 saloon. We're not sure if the driver attempted a foolish overtake of if he was trying to avoid something on the road, but he drove between two busses in his lane and lost control of the RWD sedan crash…
There's lucky, there's really lucky and then there's this driver, reportedly from Russia, which shouldn’t come to as a surprise to anyone. What makes this incident so special is that driver avoided not, one, not two but three vehicles including a large truck without even a scratch to his (or her) car. Our Russian tipster tells us that in this video we see a student getting way over his (or her) head during a driving lesson in a Lada 112 liftback in the city of Naberezhnye Chelny. Though we cannot verify if it was the teacher or the student controlling the wheel, fact is that the driver was going much faster that he or she should have, especially given the traffic on the road. Russia just set a speed record for a sprint that took place a long way from London. An unmanned Russian Progress cargo ship launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan yesterday and docked with the International Space Station just six hours later, marking the first same-day docking ever performed at the ISS. Launched aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket, the robotic Progress 48 performed additional firings of its own onboard engines early in the mission to boost it toward the ISS in a shorter period of time…
Russian YouTube poster 'MrDmitry323' found this camouflaged prototype parked at a central square in Moscow this past Sunday and put his video camera to good use. Now, he wants someone to tell him the brand and type of model that he caught on film. The two minute-long clip takes us for a walk around the test car and even offers us a glimpse of the disguise-free interior. Read more »Copyright © Carscoop.blogspot.com – All Rights Reserved
Woolly Mammoth Recreation Wikimedia Commons
First a plant from the past sprouted new life – now researchers in Russia and South Korea are moving forward with a plan to resurrect the Ice Age woolly mammoth. Scientists in both countries inked a deal Tuesday to share technology and research that could lead to the birth of a mammoth clone, gestated in a surrogate Indian elephant mother.
Mammoth remains were uncovered in thawed Siberian permafrost, and scientists around the world have been trying to extract…
If this doesn’t make you want to cobble together a couple chainsaw engines, a garden tractor seat and a couple of inner tubes, I don’t know what will.
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System U.S. Navy photo by Joe Schmitt
Apparently, Russian hackers are targeting Springfield, Illinois’s water. According to Wired’s “Threat Level,” last week a group of hackers breached the Springfield, Illinois water utility system and remotely destroyed a water pump.
The breach was discovered on November 8, when an employee noticed a problem with the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA). The problem caused the water pump to burn out after bei…
Phobos-Grunt and Upper Stage A model of the Phobos-Grunt probe with its upper state MKonair on Flickr
At 3:16 pm EST today, Russia will launch the Phobos-Grunt mission from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The unmanned probe is traveling to the Martian moon Phobos, in an attempt to bring back the first soil sample (“grunt” is Russian for “soil”) from the smaller of the planet’s moons. The irregularly shaped Phobos is the closest moon to its planet in the solar system, orbiting the red planet at jus…
