In the automotive industry, we have to deal with all sorts of vehicles – cars, trucks, SUVs, even the dreaded minivan. But sometimes, it all pays off when we get something special in to test. And sometimes, we get to drive that special car through the Smoky Mountains. That happened to be the case last weekend when BMW dropped off a shiny new 2010 BMW M3 Convertible. “To the mountains!”First and foremost, let’s talk about this engine. While most manufacturers are swapping out thei…

The 2010 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring AWD crossover is a great fun and easy to drive vehicle for family vacations whether you have a family of five or seven as the three row seating arrangement has plenty of room for all. It is also perfect for taking care of your daily chores whether it be shopping or taking the kids to their extra-curricular activities.
If people moving isn’t your greatest need, the two rear rows fold flat enabling you to load the CX-9 with cargo be it bulky or long items.
An instant…

The arrival of my latest test vehicle, a 2010 Toyota Highlander SE 4X2, could hardly have been better timed. My daughter was graduating from high school and out-of-state relatives, two of whom had never been to Texas, were arriving for the festivities. As soon as everyone was assembled, I invited them to board the Highlander and on a rainy Friday afternoon we set off. For the next three days, we alternated between academic celebrations and touring South-Central Texas, taking in such diver…

On a rainy day last September, I was enjoying the unique experience of piloting a Dodge Challenger SRT8 at Pocono International Raceway. Exiting the tight road course, I launched the Challenger onto the oval. Getting on the banking at full tilt, the Challenger reached over 125mph, the car sounding like a NASCAR race car itself, before braking hard into a chicane. It was instantly clear this was a car that deserved a closer look, but I wanted to pick the moment-Spring, 2010.
It was worth the wait. The ul…

Context is everything. Because TTAC has never tried to operate as another entry in the press-car sweepstakes, our context for the industry tends to be based more on news from the business end of things than on a regular sampling of the latest vehicles to hit the market. This basic truth about our perspective goes [...]

Cadillac has managed to keep General Motors moving in the right direction when it comes to the luxury segment. The new 2010 Cadillac CTS is evidence of just that, having evolved into a desirable luxury sports sedan (or coupe or wagon).
Making way onto Car and Drivers “10 Best list” is no easy task, but that is the just the challenge that the Cadillac CTS has taken head-on for 3 years straight and making rank each time. When the CTS was first introduced in 2002 as a 2003 model, there was not much to…

Alpina’s B7 is as close to an M7 as you can get.
For readers who aren’t totally steeped in BMW lore, the Alpina name may be a bit of a mystery. But it’s a pretty simple one to clear up: Alpina is to BMW what AMG used to be to Mercedes-Benz: an independent racing and tuning shop that has factory approval. (AMG is now wholly owned by Mercedes, however.) Alpina, for instance, co-developed the fabulous 3.0 CSL coupe with BMW in the early 1970s and is formally recognized as an automobile manufacturer b…

Audi gives the Q7 a supercharged six in two different strengths, and few will miss the engines it replaces.
As the auto industry starts the great engine shrink-down in preparation for new fuel-economy standards, Audi has been perhaps the strategy’s most visible proponent. To that end, the 2011 Q7 sport utilities headed to the U.S. will drop their big iron, the 3.6-liter V-6 and 4.2-liter V-8, in favor of two versions of the company’s relatively new 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 making 272 or 333 hp. Be…

One of our favorite cars just got a little bit better.
For the 2009 model year, the BMW 3-series sedan and wagon received a minor face lift that included new front and rear lights and a modified trunklid, grille, and front bumper. Inside, the car received the latest version of iDrive and some improved materials. These changes have now been carried over to the coupe and convertible models for the 2011 model year.

I don't see why anyone would pay the difference to move up from a Prius to a Lexus HS 250h hybrid, and I say so in today's Toronto Star. You can find it by clicking here.
