Chris “Monkey” Harris: A Day At The Races

You may remember The Monkey from his Autocar and EVO reviews (Lexus LFA and 458 Italia vs. GT3 RS come to mind), but you may not know that he’s a bit of a stick behind the wheel of a race car. Specifically, a race-prepped Porsche GT3 RS.
Harris is widely regarded as one of the most charismatic British auto journalists, but this video demonstrates that he’s not just quips and rhetoric, but a diminutive little hack too.
Harris is unusually quiet in this film, but the sharp camerawork and unique behind…

F1: Webber confirms he broke shoulder with four races to go

More details about Mark Webber’s recently broken shoulder are emerging.
The Australian’s new book ‘Up front: a season to remember” claims that
separate from his 2009 pre-season crash that broke his leg and left
shoulder, the Red Bull driver broke his right shoulder in another mountain
bike crash whilst he led the 2010 championship.
It is believed surgery on the “skier’s fracture”, sustained while on
holiday in Australia prior to the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, was the
reason Webber missed the recent P…

VIDEO: Fiat 500 Races Koenigsegg CCX in Swedish Webhost Ad

Here’s a car race with a difference: an automotive remake of the classic Tortoise and the Hare story, starring a Fiat 500 as the tortoise and a Koenigsegg CCX as the hare. Well, not a real 500 and CCX; these are 1:24 scale models, and the whole thing is filmed in stop motion. It was made by Swedish filmmaker and photographer Robin Danehav as an…

NASCAR – 5 Races to Go in the Chase and no one’s really talking about it

I find it funny how we can be in the middle of an unprecedented run by one driver at a 5th consecutive championship, and halfway through that run no one is talking about the chase.  Heading into Martinsville this week here’s what has been in the news.
This week in NASCAR it was all about who’s moving where and Kasey Khane’s sudden illness that also miraculously disappeared in time for him to run his inaugural 5K run the next day. It was about Marcos Ambrose wanting out of his contract…

With 8 races to go in the NASCAR chase – Should we count anyone out yet?

With Denny Hamlin holding the points lead heading into the third race in “The Chase” for the 2010 Championship many of the regular pundits are counting the drivers who are sitting at the bottom of the points pile. With 8 races to go however I think it is far too soon to count anyone out, this is NASCAR after all. With a spread of 235 points from first to 12th I think that there may be a chance for it to be almost anyone championship still.
Clint Bowyer will have the hardest climb after bei…

Russian Car Market Off To The Races. Again

The fate of the car industry depends highly on the price of oil. Higher oil prices, lower car sales. Lower oil prices, higher cars sales. Everywhere but Russia.
Russia’s main export is energy. Oil and gas. When oil climbed, the Russians were rolling in money and bought cars like crazy. Then came 2008. Oil crashed. The [...]

Expensive Chronorally watch off to the races

The Chronorally WRC, as it says on the watch face, is the Swiss Army Knife of watches for those who rally, or who want to look like they do.

Duesenberg drag races!

Above is how we normally see Duesenbergs nowadays – sitting on the grass at concours events, swarmed with people. Which is fine – I don’t think there’s a person out there who doesn’t think of Duesenbergs as some of the most beautiful vehicles ever built in America, and the chance to study them up close is always a treat.
But seeing them in motion is another thing altogether. Most times, all the motion you’ll see them in is driving to their spot at a show or rolling ea…
