Spied! Possible U.S.-Market Fiesta ST Five Door Caught Testing at ‘Ring

Several more photos have surfaced of the Ford Fiesta ST testing at the Nürburgring, this time it’s the five-door hatch – the version most likely to show up on U.S. streets. Although the car appears to be wearing the same front fascia as the U.S. spec SES trim already on sale, the “fake mustache” looks identical to the one previously seen on the three-door Fiesta ST testing at the ‘Ring last month.
The concentrated camouflage covering the center of the bumper/grill area suggests the testers ma…

Details on Porsche’s Cajun SUV: Audi Q5 Basis, Two-Door Possible

Porsche digs into the VW Group’s parts bin (again).
Now that Porsche is officially part of the Volkswagen Group (and not vice versa, contrary to former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking’s script), the Zuffenhausen-based sports-car, SUV, and performance-sedan manufacturer is making liberal use of the parent company’s parts bin. Joining the Cayenne, which shares its platform with the Volkswagen Touareg and the Audi Q7, will be a more compact SUV called the Cajun—and we’ve now learn…

The Continental: Opel Sale Rumors, Next Panamera and Possible Offspring, and More Three-Cylinders

Each week, our German correspondent slices and dices the latest rumblings, news, and quick-hit driving impressions from the other side of the pond. His byline may say Jens Meiners, but we simply call him . . . the Continental.
In Germany, rumors abound on a possible sale of GM’s money-losing daughter Opel. GM’s denials are sort of lame. Some within Chevrolet’s European operations are watching Opel’s travails with glee. But a sale? A more likely scenario has the …

Possible Sighting of Dark Matter Lights Up Physics Community

Dark Matter Detector Juan Collar, associate professor in physics at the University of Chicago, holds one of the early germanium detector prototypes similar to the one being used in the Coherent Germanium Neutrino
Technology (CoGeNT) experiment, situated nearly half a mile deep in the Soudan Mine in Minnesota. Such underground locations help screen out false dark-matter signals from other natural sources of radiation. Detectors of this kind are used because of their sensitivity to weak levels of radiatio…

2014 Range Rover Mule has Jaguar Dial Shifter—and Possible Diesel-Electric Hybrid Powertrain

With us since the 2006 model year, Land Rover’s current Range Rover flagship is palatial and iconic and capable. But we expect its replacement within a couple of years, likely with simple evolutionary styling changes covering a slew of new technologies—including some intended to help it slurp less fuel. This particular Range Rover–bodied mule, snapped at a facility of a technology partner, contains at least a few of those technologies, the most obvious of which is the dial-type electronic shifter …

Spied: Audi Q5 With Possible “S” Performance Tidbits

Recent spy photos of Audi Q5 test vehicles reveal that the automaker is preparing to bless the Q5 with some added performance.
We initially guessed Audi will likely stuff a beefier engine under the hood such as the supercharged 3.0T V6 and call it a day, but a few clues from the spy shots reveal otherwise. Photos of the tester’s rear reveal the biggest hint—quad tip exhausts that are a signature feature of Audi’s S cars. And a close up of the driver side front tire reveals 20-inch multi-piece rims…

Audi recalls close to 6,000 A6, S6 RS6 models over possible fuel system flaw

Volkswagen has announced a recall of 5,992 2001-2004 Audi A6, 2003 Audi RS6 and 2002-2003 Audi S6 models due to a fuel system flaw that could lead to a vehicle fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
“The aging of the plastic material in the fuel tank rollover valve combined with bending stress from the aluminum ventilation line to the rollover valve nipple may lead to cracking of the nipple,” NHTSA said. “If this happens, a fuel leak may result….

Big sales could mean big recalls for Ford’s best-selling F-150 pickup truck; the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into a corrosion issue on the metal straps holding up the fuel tank of 2.7 million of the trucks form 1997-2001.
