An almost audible gasp from the automotive world was heard when Porsche announced – unapologetically – that the newly revealed 991 GT3 will come equipped with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) only. It will be the first time ever in the GT3’s history that a manual gearbox will not be offered. Apart from the change of the Mezger engine to the new, completely unrelated direct fuel injection (DFI) engine of the lesser 911 models, Porsche’s decision on PDK has got to be the single most talke…

The new Porsche 911 GT3 is the next 911 model to make its debut in the United States, and like the Type 991 versions of the 911 Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, it’s a better car in every regard than its (admirably quick) predecessor.
Out back, the 3.8-liter flat-six engine now benefits from direct injection, while receiving a stratospherically-high (for a production automobile engine, anyway) redline of 9,000 rpm. It cranks out 475 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque, sending this t…

If you're not a professional spy photographer, the chances of randomly meeting up with a prototype on the road are rare to zilch – depending on your location, even more so if you're travelling at night when it's far more difficult to spot lightly camouflaged models. Yet these two gentleman in a 2013 Audi S6 (that's the one with the 414hp / 420PS 4.0-liter TFSI V8), were able to tell apart a 2014 Porsche Panamera test car – likely from the LED lights at the back and the tweaked nose …

German supercar manufacturer, Porsche tuner, and restorer Ruf Automobile GmbH arrived in Geneva with plenty of heavily modified Porsches including a Boxster with 911 muscle. The automaker made news with the announcement of an investment and cooperative agreement signed with investment group GENII Capital with that group’s founding partner Gerard Lopez — owner of the [...]

Porsche has taken the wraps off of the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3, which is the fifth iteration of this race-inspired model and will once again serve as the range topping model for all naturally aspirated 911 variants when it arrives on dealer lots later this year.
The exterior styling of the 2014 GT3 retains many of the basic design elements that define the standard issue 911, but Porsche stylists have made several revisions that make the GT3 stand out from the rest of the 911 lineup. A reworked front…

When it comes to a Porsche 911, you can never have too much – especially in knowing how the 911 has been nearly perfected due to a subtle evolution year after year. Like a nicely aged wine, the Porsche 911 ages well and the latest iteration of the Porsche GT3 has made its way to the internet through a leak before its reveal this week at the Geneva Motor Show.
What you see in the images here is the newest Porsche 911 GT3 hiding the rumored 3.8-liter boxer engine and PDK gearbox. It looks as if Por…

I was interviewing Porsche designer Michael Mauer last year for a story on his auto designs, when he happened to mention that he prefers to sketch with a pencil.
Up went my ears, because I'm a contributor to Pen World magazine, a publication for crazy pen collectors like me. So I spoke with him a second time, primarily about how he uses pencils to create his work. And now, I've got a story about pencils, including Mauer, in the February edition of the magazine … click here!

At the tender age of 15, I got my first ride in a Porsche-a brand new 1988 911 Carrera. The sound of that air cooled flat six ruined me for life. And I swore I would own a Porsche. In college I owned a Porsche 944, which was a great car, handled wonderfully, and holds fond memories as it was the car I took my first drive with the woman I would eventually marry and raise a family. But the burning desire for a 911 never went away. And in June of 2002, my dream came true. To this day, whenever I fire up my…
