Morning Star NASA/JPL-Caltech/Space Science InstituteA mind-expanding planetary view. There’s nothing quite like stretching out and taking in the stars. Except, maybe, taking in the stars from the neighborhood of Saturn. NASA’s Cassini spacecraft took these two images of Venus–only a shiny dot, really, in each photo–as seen from the the Saturnian system. Technically the spacecraft is a few hundred thousand miles from Saturn, but we still get a phenomenal view of the rings. In the first one, here, tak…

When it comes to a Porsche 911, you can never have too much – especially in knowing how the 911 has been nearly perfected due to a subtle evolution year after year. Like a nicely aged wine, the Porsche 911 ages well and the latest iteration of the Porsche GT3 has made its way to the internet through a leak before its reveal this week at the Geneva Motor Show.
What you see in the images here is the newest Porsche 911 GT3 hiding the rumored 3.8-liter boxer engine and PDK gearbox. It looks as if Por…

No more guessing what the 2014 Chevrolet Stingray series' Convertible version will look like as General Motors has just released the first official photos of the car, a few days before it makes its world premiere in Switzerland and the 83rd edition of the Geneva International Auto Salon. Both images show the Corvette Stingray Convertible from a 3/4 profile angle, with or without its soft-top in the upright position. Read more »

Following last night's premature reveal, Toyota has officially presented its new GT86 / Scion FR-S-based FT-86 Open concept, just days before we get to see in the flesh at the 83rd edition of the Geneva Motor Show. Besides a more comprehensive and higher-resolution image gallery, Toyota also published the first video of the car on the move and initial specifications. It only takes a quick look at the pictures to see that the FT-86 Open is more of a pre-production model than a concept, something th…

We have no idea when McLaren was planning to share new images of its P1 hypercar, but nine photos showing the final production model have just hit the interwebs. How can we be sure that this is the production version and not the concept? Easy. Besides the new color, the P1 in these images features added carbon fiber air-vents on both corners of the front bumper, road tires and a tighter mesh for the rear end vent, all of which were announced by a McLaren spokesperson during a private showing in New Yor…

The Jeep Cherokee is back. The sparse release accompanying these images—spat out on the heels of clandestine photos published today by Jalopnik, as well as the rather accurate rendering we published last month—confirms that the Liberty replacement will resurrect the hallowed badge when it debuts in late March. (At least in the U.S.; the Liberty was badged as a Cherokee for other markets.) The name change is something we’ve been discussing as far back as early last summer.
While official details w…

Nissan is showing its second-generation Note in European guise for the first time ahead of the B-segment model's public premiere at the 83rd Geneva International Auto Salon. Compared to its predecessor, the Note is shaped more like a hatchback and less like a mini-MPV, as Nissan tries to better compete with more traditional superminis such as the Ford Fiesta and Renault Clio. What it is: The refreshed version of the Chevy Malibu, which is coming a year-and-a-half ahead of its originally scheduled arrival, and just 18 months after the car first launched. Under the mask hides a new fascia, which we believe will be brought in line with the wide-mouth look recently introduced on the Traverse. It’s possible we’ll also see a light upgrade for the interior, which would add higher-quality materials. READ MORE ››

Late last year, Kia vice chairman Hyoung-Keun Lee said that the brand would be a genuine competitor to the established luxury automakers by 2017. That time frame seems rather ambitious considering that Kia has gone without a flagship here since the Amanti went out of production in 2010, and a competitive flagship since, well, ever. (The plan also seems ambitious because, well, just read it again.) And while the rear-drive Quoris/K9 is Kia’s range-topper in Korea, its derivative design and distant arri…

Here’s what we already know about the new Mercedes-Benz CLA: it’s a four-door sports sedan based on the A-Class’ MFA front-wheel drive platform, with the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system being available as an option. It sits between the A- and C-Class in the automaker’s line-up but is slightly longer than the latter. It has a production car aerodynamic record with a Cd of just 0.23 and it will launch with a 207HP turbocharged 2.0-liter four-banger in the U.S. and a wider range of gasoline and dies…
