It’s no secret that Lotus has been experiencing some difficulties. The trouble began earlier this year when investment firm DRB Hicom purchased a stake in Proton from the Malaysian government. Proton was owned by the Malaysian government for years, and DRB Hicom’s purchase put a hold on Lotus development and production. Honda is shifting production of the Civic Hybrid out of Japan and over to the United States, as part of a plan to boost their Indiana assembly plant.
The Greensburg plant will get a boost in capacity, allowing it to produce 250,000 vehicles per year. The $40 million upgrade will add 300 new jobs, and bring production of the Civic Hybrid to the plant, which currently produces the standard Civic sedan, Civic Natural Gas and the Acura ILX.

General Motors will announce tomorrow that their consolidated line at Oshawa, currently building both the Chevrolet Equinox and Chevrolet Impala, will close. 2,000 of the 4,000 jobs at the Oshawa plant are located at the consolidated factory, and GM apparently won’t be re-investing in the facility.
Under the new plan, GM would move Chevrolet Impala production to the Detroit-Hamtramck plant, and any overflow production would not return to the Oshawa “flex line” because the 2014 Impala …
