2013 Hyundai Elantra GT – More Versatility for the Compact Sedan

For the 2013 model year, Hyundai expands its model lineup of its bestselling Elantra line by adding a GT hatchback to enhance its versatility and functionality.  This new model should increase its sales capability by giving consumers more of what they want in a compact five door hatchback sedan.  I tested and photographed the new car and enjoyed the ride, it interior accruements and its new versatility and functionality.  It has stiff competition in the hot-selling compact five-door hatchback niche f…

Ferrari called world’s most powerful brand, more powerful than Apple

Renown asset valuation consultancy firm Brand Finance has just given Ferrari a recent accolade for being the world’s most powerful brand over electronics giant, Apple. And that of course can be taken both literally and figuratively.

Though according to BF, Ferrari has achieved “their highest brand rating in the global 500,” despite the fact that Ferrari is very much a niche car manufacturer.
“I often think that the Italian genius for car design is based in the language of craft,” Stephen Bayle…

2014 Volvo S60 and XC60 promise refinements and more safety gear

Volvo has removed the virtual cover from its 2014 S60 sedan and XC60 SUV, revealing numerous interior and exterior updates.

Volvo refers to this midlife freshening as the most extensive in its company history, although it is well within the updates we have seen from other automakers.

Both vehicles receive a facelift for the upcoming model year. The S60 now hides its windshield washer nozzles, and the chrome grille surround has likewise vanished. New headlamps, wider grille, LED tail lights, wheels, …

2014 Volvo XC70: Minor Cosmetic Changes and More Nanny Systems [2013 Geneva Auto Show]

Back in the early days of the crossover megatrend, many weren’t much more than regular sedans or station wagons with higher ground clearance. Thus, the Volvo V70, a face-lifted 850 wagon, became the XC Cross Country. Unpainted body cladding, a jacked-up suspension, and earthy color schemes set it apart from the more streamlined base model. The crossover market has since moved ahead, and many carmakers now create unique bodies for their pseudo off-roaders. A prime example of the new type of cros…

February 18 Weekly Open Thread: More Electric Car Whining

The automotive world is slowly accepting electric cars and the like. But there is controversy of late. It seems that a test drive of a Tesla went wrong… that it didn't meet the advertised claims of its parent company.
Or did it fail? There are two sides to this story, and Tesla has a great argument.
Rather than me trying to retell the story, here it is from Wikipedia:
"On 8th February 2013, the New York Times
published a review, written by John Broder, about the real possibility
of a Tesla …

Just in: The 2014 Mazda CX-5 returns with more Skyactiv power

We rather enjoyed the 2013 Mazda CX-5 Touring we bought and tested last year. But there was one complaint: the super-efficient 2.0-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder engine was down on power at just 155 horses. Scratch that gripe off the list. Most 2014 CX-5s will come with a more-competitive 184-hp, 2.5-liter Skyactiv engine.

It’s a mixed bag when automakers introduce a car and then make major changes just a year later. Improving products is great for the consumer, except for the poor guy who will regret bu…
