2010 Mercury Milan
FoMoCo has officially confirmed that it will kill Mercury with production of the brand coming to an end in the fourth quarter of 2010. The Dearborn automaker said that it will allocate Mercury’s financial, product development, production and marketing, sales and service resources towards growing its Ford brand while enhancing its luxury Lincoln brand.
“Profitably growing Lincoln in North America is an important part of our One Ford plan,” said Alan Mulally, Ford president and…

The three-row 2010 Lincoln MKT is essentially a Ford Flex with an extra helping of luxury. It's quiet, capable, and offers great room in the first two rows. But the interior is somewhat less comfortable than in the Flex, and rear visibility is poor.We liked the 3.5-liter, 355-hp turbocharged V6, and found that it delivered on Lincoln's promise of V8 power with V6 fuel economy. This is a large SUV, and while it soaks up bumps on the highway and at low speeds, it isn't a comfortable being h…

If I had the time and energy, I’d like to do a little long-term experiment: Comb through all the collector-car classified ads I can find for any cars claiming to have once been owned by celebrities or politicians. Plot them on a timeline and see how they correspond (both individually and as a whole) to the prominence of said celebrities or politicians in the news. This experiment would probably provide more interesting results should you eliminate from the pool of candidate vehicles all the cars t…

There's no way around this one: The most distinctive feature of the 2010 Lincoln MKT's exterior is its rather pronounced derriere. Does this, admittedly subjective, feature negatively affect the car's performance? Well, when it comes to rearward visibility, YES! With its small rear window and large pillars the big Lincoln ranked poorly when it came to evaluating the rig's visibility. A tight driving position didn't impress us, either. But where does it shine? How does it r…

Lincoln
Having been the only one of the American manufacturers to not seek bankruptcy protection from the United States government, Ford is in the process of emerging from the automotive crisis as strong as ever. With the recent shedding of the Volvo brand, all of Ford’s luxury segment hopes ride on the shoulders of Lincoln, and that may not be very promising.
With the luxury segment poised to boom, Lincoln suffers from brand image; their primary liability can be seen in the fact that their buyer…

I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to now sample four vehicles with Ford’s outstanding 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 under their hoods (Flex EcoBoost, Taurus SHO, MKS EcoBoost, and now the MKT EcoBoost). In each vehicle, a blockbuster engine makes these large vehicles accelerate better in a straight line than they seemingly should be able to, while gulping down prodigious amounts of unleaded.
It was a gorgeous sunny day when the MKT was delivered for evaluation; its Cinnamon Metallic…

From the “Well, Duh” Department at Ford Motor Company comes the new hybrid version of the Lincoln MKZ. The MKZ hybrid is fitted with the same gasoline-electric system found in the hybrid versions of its corporate twins, the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan. The hybrid powertrain combines a 156-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine and 106-hp electric motor for a total system output of 191 hp; it’s rated for 41 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway in the Fusion and Milan variants. While we have…

With its reveal of the 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid at the 2010 New York Auto Show, Ford’s luxury brand put Lexus on notice that it has the Lexus HS 250h in the crosshairs. In its press release announcing the MKZ, Lincoln mentioned the HS several times to highlight what the MKZ has on the Lexus hybrid.Lincoln naturally called out MKZ’s better fuel economy, and the fact that it has more standard luxury, technology, and safety features than the Lexus.Of course, the HS employs Toyota’s standout Hybrid Synergy Dr…
