Review: 2013 Jeep Wrangler

While I am a card carrying member of the so-called indifferent Generation X, I am quite a nostalgic person. It’s why I listen to Louis Armstrong and Frank Sinatra, live in a 1920′s beach cottage and own a classic Porsche. And being a car guy, nothing is more nostalgic than a Jeep-I mean a real Jeep. Being a car guy, cars are significant to me in a major way, even more so when they intermingle with major life events. We love to brag about horsepower and 0-60 times, but the magic and romance o…

Thread of the Day: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Base Model or Loaded Diesel?

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s styling updates are mostly subtle, but the SUV received substantial upgrades under the hood – and in the transmission tunnel. A new 240-hp 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 joins the 3.6-liter V-6, 5.7-liter V-8, and SRT model’s 6.4-liter V-8 on the engine roster. All engines are backed by a new eight-speed automatic [...]

Marchionne Wants To Set New World Record On The Jeep

All of you who talked smack about the New Jeep Cherokee, take note: Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne believes in this car, so much that he predicts Chrysler selling more than 800,000 Jeeps worldwide in 2013.
At the Geneva Motor Show, Marchionne told Reuters:
“Last year we sold more than 700,000 Jeeps and this year we’re aiming to sell more than 800,000. With the new Cherokee coming out in May we’ll be in the largest vehicle segment in the U.S., and that’s important.”
800,000 wou…

Style to Move Jeep Forward

If Sergio Marchionne were taking time out from running an automobile empire to record a rap tune, he might begin with the phrase “haters gonna hate”. I say this because he is about to blow up the Jeep brand design aesthetic. It is not as though the traditional seven-slot grill is gone, but it is bent – some may say melted. The lights are still there, but they are pinched on top; with auxiliary lights on the bottom riffing on the juke’s setup.

The Liberty nameplate looks like it is being mothb…

A first look at the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The big news for 2014 is the return of a diesel, and it's a sweetie: a 3.0-litre provided by Fiat. The major issue with it will be is that it's only in the top lines, and these models get really pricey. Find out more in my Toronto Star story by clicking here.

Video: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel brings efficiency and rumble

For years, the Jeep Grand Cherokee just didn’t live up to the model’s substantial nameplate equity. A top-to-bottom 2011 redesign set things straight, rewarding the post-bankruptcy Chrysler with strong sales. Now a 2014 mid-cycle update brings more refinements and improvements for the popular and well-rounded Jeep, including a new diesel-engine option.

You can argue the value of the new front and rear fascias; I prefer the pre-facelift styling to this new fussy treatment. But the changes go far deeper….

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel V-6 First Drive: Like Diesel? You’ll Dig this GC

If Jeep’s Grand Cherokee didn’t have enough iterations—including gas V-6 or V-8, rear- or four-wheel drive, fire-breathing SRT, etc.—the model’s 2014 refresh brings with it a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6. The update also includes new exterior lighting, re-sculpted front and rear styling, and an updated interior. READ MORE ››

Jeep Releases First Official Photos of 2014 Cherokee [2013 New York Auto Show]

The Jeep Cherokee is back. The sparse release accompanying these images—spat out on the heels of clandestine photos published today by Jalopnik, as well as the rather accurate rendering we published last month—confirms that the Liberty replacement will resurrect the hallowed badge when it debuts in late March. (At least in the U.S.; the Liberty was badged as a Cherokee for other markets.) The name change is something we’ve been discussing as far back as early last summer.
While official details w…

Jeep Compass’ Segment-Leading Capability vs Jeep Patriot’s Segment-Leading Capability

The decision by former Chrysler design chief Trevor Creed, approved by the company’s product planners and subsequently reaffirmed by Sergio Marchionne and his team of Fiat managers, to produce two compact Jeep SUVs, the Compass and the Patriot, has always confused me. Why spend money developing two different cars based on the same platform for the same market segment? Wouldn’t it make more sense to make one good car instead of two not quite as good cars?
Of course in the corporate mind at Ch…
