LeMons Heaps In the Heart of Texas Inspections: A Harley-Powered Prius… and Some Other Stuff We Didn’t Really Notice

The 24 Hours of LeMons traveling circus is wrapping up a great 20-race 2012 season at Eagles Canyon Raceway in Texas, and the LeMons Supreme Court and the tech inspectors did their customary scrutiny of the 38 teams that were hardcore enough to spend New Year’s weekend in freezing-cold Decatur, Texas. Your LeMons correspondent is taking a vacation from his duties as Chief Justice of the LeMons Supreme Court, so these photographs come to us courtesy of Speedycop Gang of Outlaws member Ron Vickers.

LeMons South BS Inspections: 1950 Mercedes-Benz 170S, a Caddy That Zigs, and a Parade

The 24 Hours of LeMons has been coming to Carolina Motorsports Park in South Carolina since 2008, making this weekend’s race the fifth annual 24 Hours of LeMons South Fall. Many legendary LeMons teams have made their reps here, and this weekend sees some cars among the 103 entrants that will hold a place in LeMons lore for years to come.

Before we get to those teams, however, let’s check out some of the top contenders who will be worth watching this weekend. The Road Warriors, previous LeMo…

24 Hours of LeMons Thunderhill BS Inspections: 180+ Cars, Foolish Engine Swaps Galore

The Guinness Book of Records folks say that the biggest road-race event of all time had something like 184 vehicles. There’s a good chance, depending on how many not-quite-ready teams thrash their hoopties into shape overnight, that we may break that record at the Vodden the Hell Are We Doing 24 Hours of LeMons at Northern California’s Thunderhill Raceway. Of the cars that are ready, we can say that the record for Most Totally Ridiculous Engine Swaps been shattered already. Plus, we have our…

LeMons Pacific Northworst BS Inspections: Two-Stroke Saab, Two-Stroke Miata, and a Plymouth Scamp

We’re up in rainy, gloomy Washington State for the second annual Pacific Northworst 24 Hours of LeMons, and this field is shaping up to be one of the best we’ve seen in the ’12 season. There’s the usual assortment of BMW 3-series, Mazda RX-7s, Acura Integras, and Fox-body Mustangs, but those cars are just the background against which the real racers stand out. You know it’s going to be a good race when you speculate about how the Saab 96 is going to fare against the Sedan D…

LeMons DC Inspections: Superchargers and a Cadillac-ized Benz

Here at the Capitol Offense 24 Hours of LeMons in Washington DC (to be precise, we’re at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia), about 130 hooptied-out race cars ran the gauntlet of safety and Cheat Enforcement inspections, and the field looks to be a good one. Read full story »

LeMons New England BS Inspections: Volvos, a Racing Trailer that Tows Itself, and—Wait, Racing Trailer?

Here we are at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the second annual Loudon Annoying 24 Hours of LeMons, and we’re seeing the usual New England–style pack of 80 or so Volvos, Subarus, and Audis preparing for tomorrow’s green flag. And then we’ve got a no-tow-vehicle-required trailer also gearing up for the race. No, really.

A Barracuda, Speedy Monzales, and a Luxurious W126 Benz: BS Inspections of the Heaps In The Heart Of Texas 24 Hours of LeMons

I’m still recovering from having my tonsils hacked out with pinking shears, so I couldn’t get to Texas to judge at the 2011 season-ending 24 Hours of LeMons race at Eagles Canyon Raceway. Fortunately, the LeMons Supreme Court has tentacles everywhere, and they’ve sent in some photos showing how Friday’s prerace BS Inspection went down. [...]

Occupy Sesame Street, a Quad 4, and a Lotus Elite: BS Inspections at the Arse Freeze-a-Palooza 24 Hours of LeMons

Here we are in Buttonwillow, California, for the fifth annual Arse Freeze-a-Palooza 24 Hours of LeMons. The judges of the LeMons Supreme Court (that is, me and one of the guys you should blame for the Passat getting Car of the Year) eyeballed 130 or so race machines in various states of cheatosity today, and [...]

Fire Arrow, Twin-Stick Colt, and Devo: BS Inspections at the Skankaway Anti-Toe-Fungal 24 Hours of LeMons

The full name of this weekend’s race at Sears Point aka Infineon Raceway is “THE SKANKAWAY ANTI-TOE-FUNGAL 500, SPONSORED BY CRUSKIN-SKANKAWAY INC., THE OFFICIAL FUNGICIDAL TOE CREME OF LEMONS,” because Cruskin-Skankaway, Inc., won the bidding war for race sponsorship. Appropriately enough, this race featured more Chrysler, Mitsubishi, and Chrysler-Mitsubishi products than any race in LeMons [...]
