Late last year, Kia vice chairman Hyoung-Keun Lee said that the brand would be a genuine competitor to the established luxury automakers by 2017. That time frame seems rather ambitious considering that Kia has gone without a flagship here since the Amanti went out of production in 2010, and a competitive flagship since, well, ever. (The plan also seems ambitious because, well, just read it again.) And while the rear-drive Quoris/K9 is Kia’s range-topper in Korea, its derivative design and distant arri…

When we first caught wind of Lincoln’s forthcoming utelet, we welcomed the news that it would likely use Ford’s global C-segment platform that also underpins the Escape and the Focus. Both of those vehicles are good, so if Lincoln can’t have unique mechanicals, as least it’s got good bones to build on; the interesting part would be how Lincoln goes about evolving the MKC from well-received Ford to entry-luxury contender. 2015 Alfa Romeo Duetto (artist's rendering)
Alfa Romeo and Mazda appear to be growing quite cozy. A contingent of Mazda brass was spotted recently at Fiat’s production facilities in Turin, Italy. This is due, in part, to the fact that Mazda is the only major Japanese manufacturer without a European production facility and Fiat just happens to have some production space that’s not being used. Oh, and did we mention that Alfa is developing a roadster, which we believe will be called Duetto, based o…

Imagine you’re a Sweet 16 princess, and your flotilla of cupcakes shows up in the back of a Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, or something equally boxy and dumb. The shame! We can hardly blame you for that epic meltdown. Cry no longer: Mini has revealed its production Clubvan (it first bowed as a concept at this year’s Geneva show), and boutique delivery services can bring the goods without embarrassing their clientele. Dare we say it? For the first time in a while, Chevrolet has created an Impala that might excite someone other than fleet purchasing agents.

On the heels of sketches published earlier this month, Kia now has revealed the first official images of its new full-size, rear-wheel-drive sedan. Set to launch in Korea during the first half of this year, the large sedan carried the codename “KH” during development but will be called K9 in its home market. The vehicle’s availability, name, and launch dates for export markets will be announced later this year.

Big revisions for the big Lincoln sedan.
Call them revisions or call them fixes; either way, Lincoln has done a good amount of something to the 2013 MKS. This is not a remake, but instead a heavy refresh like those applied to several Ford and Lincoln products of late. (See 2011 Ford Edge/Lincoln MKZ and 2011 Ford Mustang.)

Cadillac launches a bunch of in-car gadgets. Oh, and a new flagship.
Cadillac’s front-wheel-drive, V-8–powered chariot of South Florida, the DTS, was put out to pasture this year. Its platform was introduced when its current octogenarian owners were mere quinquagenarians; in plain English, this means that the DTS underpinnings could be traced back some 30 years. Rather than replace it with a BMW-chasing, rear-drive four-door of the sort that enthusiasts demand and shoppers would probably overlook, i…

Presenting the next-generation ML AMG. Why? Just because.
If being politically correct is as appealing to you as driving a railroad spike through your foot—and you’ve got some bucks—you’re probably in the target demographic for an insanely powerful sport-utility vehicle. They’re wasteful and unnecessary—which is exactly the point. You don’t buy a hyper-powerful SUV for serious off-roading, and you don’t buy one to take it to the racetrack or conquer the Dragon. You also don…

In what’s become an annual rite—and following a major update for 2012—Nissan’s GT-R supercar has once again been tweaked for the 2013 model year. The GT-R’s twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6 now makes 545 hp—a 15-hp increase over the 2012 model’s 530, which was itself a 45-horse bump from the previous year. Of course, peak twist also increases, from 448 lb-ft of torque to 463. The additional power comes courtesy of enhanced intake efficiency, larger intake ducting for the intercooler…
