Heaps In the Heart of Texas LeMons Day 1: 300ZX Leads, Harley-Engined Prius Still Running

After Friday’s car inspections at the Heaps In the Heart of Texas 24 Hours of LeMons, the smart money said that the Hell’s Treehuggers Toyo-Davidson would blow up within seconds of going “potato-potato-potato” onto the race track. You know what? The smart money also says that Nissan Z Cars fall apart on race tracks, and the end of the first day of racing shows the Back To The Past 300ZX leading the field… and the Harley-Davidson Sportster-powered Prius still in working order.

LeMons Heaps In the Heart of Texas Inspections: A Harley-Powered Prius… and Some Other Stuff We Didn’t Really Notice

The 24 Hours of LeMons traveling circus is wrapping up a great 20-race 2012 season at Eagles Canyon Raceway in Texas, and the LeMons Supreme Court and the tech inspectors did their customary scrutiny of the 38 teams that were hardcore enough to spend New Year’s weekend in freezing-cold Decatur, Texas. Your LeMons correspondent is taking a vacation from his duties as Chief Justice of the LeMons Supreme Court, so these photographs come to us courtesy of Speedycop Gang of Outlaws member Ron Vickers.

2013 Mini Clubvan Official Photos and Info: Toting Eclipse of the Heart

Imagine you’re a Sweet 16 princess, and your flotilla of cupcakes shows up in the back of a Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, or something equally boxy and dumb. The shame! We can hardly blame you for that epic meltdown. Cry no longer: Mini has revealed its production Clubvan (it first bowed as a concept at this year’s Geneva show), and boutique delivery services can bring the goods without embarrassing their clientele. (more…)

Heaps In The Heart Of Texas LeMons Day One: MX-3 Leads, Index of Effluency Battle Heating Up

It’s not much of a shock to find that the most dominant team of the 2011 24 Hours of LeMons season, the seemingly black-flag-proof Hong Norrth Mazda MX-3, ended today’s race session at Eagles Canyon in P1. A lot can happen tomorrow, though, so unhatched chickens aren’t being counted yet. The day’s events featured plenty [...]

A Barracuda, Speedy Monzales, and a Luxurious W126 Benz: BS Inspections of the Heaps In The Heart Of Texas 24 Hours of LeMons

I’m still recovering from having my tonsils hacked out with pinking shears, so I couldn’t get to Texas to judge at the 2011 season-ending 24 Hours of LeMons race at Eagles Canyon Raceway. Fortunately, the LeMons Supreme Court has tentacles everywhere, and they’ve sent in some photos showing how Friday’s prerace BS Inspection went down. [...]

How Computer Modeling Lets Doctors Predict Heart Attacks Before They Happen

Digitally Modeling the Heart NVIDIAGPU-driven processing is bringing the predictive power of supercomputers to the radiology suite
Heart attacks strike about 1.2 million people every year in America alone, many of them fatally. Of those, most are caused by coronary artery disease–the biggest killer of both men and women in the U.S.–and something like 70 percent of those strike without warning. Coronary artery disease is sneaky like that. Symptoms generally don’t outwardly manifest themselves until som…

Video Find: Adapting Godzilla’s Heart to the Juke-R’s Body

The fifth video in the Frankenstein-Baby Godzilla Juke-R build has surfaced. In this segment we learn the process the engineers had to go through to adapt the longer wheelbase GT-R’s drivetrain into the Juke’s shorter wheelbase.
The engineers say the Juke’s wheelbase is 250 mm shorter or just over 10 inches. First they checked the factory specs before physically measuring it themselves to see exactly what they were up against. The mighty GT-R’s drivetrain comes with two prop-shafts: one from the…

Mike Wallace, Davis ChevroletPhoto by: Eric Gilbert

GAFFNEY, S.C. (November 1, 2011) – Mike Wallace will have some extra inspiration to succeed this weekend when he climbs behind the wheel of the No. 01 G&K Services Chevrolet for JD Motorsports at Texas Motor Speedway. This past Sunday, his dad, Russ Wallace, passed away at the age of 77. The patriarch of the Wallace family was an accomplished racer himself back in his St. Louis days. And, it’s safe to say he passed on those winning skills to…
