2012 Jeep Compass and Patriot SUVs recalled due to damaged fuel valves

The Chrysler Group is recalling 2012 Jeep Compass and 2012 Jeep Patriot SUVs due to faulty fuel tank valves, said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). About 1,700 of the recalled Jeep sport-utility vehicles have damaged roll-over fuel valves, which may leak during collisions or roll-over accidents, increasing the risk of a fire.

Consumers Union supports higher fuel economy standards

Consumers Union, the advocacy arm of Consumer Reports, has submitted public comments supporting increased fuel economy standards for cars starting in 2017.

The standards—supported by automakers as well as regulators in Washington, D.C., and in California—would raise fuel economy targets to 54.5 mpg by 2025, building on standards that reach 39.4 mpg in 2015.
