Report: Mercury Tracer coming back in 2011

Many Mercury dealers have been living in fear of the brand being shut down since they haven’t received a new model in five years. It is now reported that Ford will bring back the Tracer name on a new compact that will be added to the Mercury brand at the end of 2011, giving it a shot at the growing small-car segment.
Dealers said that Ford executives told them last month at the National Automobile Dealers Association Convention that they are committed to producing a new Mercury by the end of 2011….

Volvo killing V70 in the U.S., FWD XC70 coming in 2011

If you’re planning on buying the new Volvo V70 wagon, you better act soon because Volvo plans on droppingV the V70 from its 2011 U.S. lineup. Volvo said that declining sales and evaporation of the premium wagon segment in the U.S. doesn’t justify the brand keeping the V70 in its lineup.
On the other hand, sales of the Volvo XC60 and XC70 remain strong and Volvo plans on introducing a front-wheel-drive version of the XC70 in 2011. Currently, the XC70 comes standard with all-wheel drive.

BMW Alpina B7 xDrive Coming to NY Auto Show

When the Alpina folks take a BMW 7-series and turn it into the feisty Alpina B7, they extract 500 hp from the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engine. That’s a lot of power for just two drive wheels, so BMW will introduce an xDrive all-wheel-drive version of the B7 at the New York auto show.
As before, you can pick from standard- or extended-wheelbase models, and now between rear and all-wheel drive. Other specs will probably match those of the rear-drive model; click here for the full rundown on that car. We…

All-Weather Alpina: 2011 BMW Alpina B7 xDrive Coming to NY Show

At the Chicago Auto Show last February, we saw the latest from Alpina – the new B7 sedan – to be offered in both short- and long-wheelbase versions. With significant revisions to BMW’s standard 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 that include new pistons, larger intercoolers, and increased boost pressure, the B7 was said to be good for a well-rounded 500 horsepower and a full 516 pound-feet of torque.  Hook that type of power up to the B7′s rear wheels and the improvements were good for 4.5-second 0 to 60 mph …

Cadillac XTS approved for production, coming in 2012 with plug-in hybrid variant

If the folks at Motor Trend are to be believed, the Cadillac XTS large luxury sedan has been given the thumbs up for approval and the production model should arrive sometime in 2012. The report says that designers and engineers are working hard to keep the production model virtually unchanged from the Cadillac XTS Platinum concept, inside and out.
Also, its is said that as the XTS sedan was being approved for production, GM was pulling the plug on the production Cadillac Converj project. Why? Because GM…
