Daimler and Chinese automaker BYD have put plans to build the first electric car of the collaborative effort on hold. The companies say that the premiere prototype will debut next April.
Dieter Zetsche, Daimler boss, says that his brand is doing the majority of the planning and development on the car, and could easily work with a different automaker. Zetsche, however, believes that BYD has superior battery technology, and that it is better to wait on the prototype.
BYD laid off thousands of its employee…

The current BMW 3-Series is a good looking car in our opinion. It was the last model to arrive during the Chris Bangle era at BMW, and no doubt was some of his best work. With the current car, BMW has maintained its sales dominance here in the United States and around the world. As far as styling, while we never hated them, we couldn’t quite say the same about the previous generation 5- and 7-Series. The current 5 and 7 are far more stylish than the vehicles they replaced, taking BMW styling back t…

Toyota’s refresh to the 2012 Tacoma lineup and the Baja Extreme Edition seemed to be the only glimmers of excitement in the small-to-medium sized pickup market. The Ford Ranger is being cut (instead of being redesigned) and offerings from Chevrolet and Dodge have been left without update. That is about to change. For global markets, Chevy has introduced a new Colorado pickup – it is launching in Thailand first. Why Thailand, you might say? Thailand is the world’s largest market for mid…

How many times have you gone out in a howling blizzard to start your T, only to find the crank handle frozen? I know! Then, while you’re trying to find purchase on it while cranking, you slip on the ice and the compression whacks the handle backwards down into your forehead. Semiconscious, you lie there in the slush while a light snow filters down, slowly covering the spreading bruise.
As the cold drags you toward oblivion, it also works on your Ford, which you unwisely left on a gentle grade. Slo…

The Chevrolet Sonic subcompact has launched, and to very good reviews. The Sonic replaces GM’s former entry in the segment, the Aveo, with an all-new vehicle. Those that have tested the car say it is impressive, with good driving dynamics and a class-leading interior. We’ve yet to test it, but given the improvements seen in GM vehicles over the past few years we wouldn’t doubt the good reports coming out. GM has proven it can do small cars right – the new Cruze has become the top…

While some have said Tesla would never get to this point, work is moving forward full-speed ahead on the company’s next product, the Model S. On Saturday Tesla gave journalists and prospective Model S buyers a preview of the latest iteration of the car, Model S Beta. The company is using software terminology for the car as it leads up to a production launch. The event took place at the former General Motors-Toyota NUMMI joint partnership plant in Fremont, California. Toyota sold the factory to Tes…
