Video: Putting the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible’s top through extreme tests

Wondering how durable the top is on the new 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible? Well, wonder no more. GM has released a video showing us the extensive tests it put the Camaro Convertible to make sure that the drop-top muscle car doesn’t disappoint.
GM said that to assure long-term durability, the Camaro Convertible’s top was opened and closed more than 22,5000 times (three times more than would be expected in a typical 10 year use) while it was under development. Some of those open and closes…

Chevrolet Shows How it Tests the 2011 Camaro Convertible’s Top

A new video from General Motors gives us an insight on how its engineers test the durability of the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible’s soft-top. The company said that during the development phase, the electrically operated tops of the prototype models were opened and closed more than 22,500 times, which is claimed to be three times more than what an average driver would do in 10 years of use. GM added that some of those tests were performed in extreme weather conditions with temperatures ranging from …

Video preview: Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible

My neighbor, who’s an admitted Mopar fan, said to me the other day “Who would have thought that we’d ever again see new versions of muscle cars like the Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro?”

He’s got a point. Back in the grim days of the 1970s–when gas prices were high and American-made quality was low–the state of Detroit-based performance cars was indeed bleak. But the current crop of these famed cars is the best ever. For perspective, a 1987 5.0-liter …

2012 Camaro V6 Gets More Power, Better Fuel Economy

The 2012 Camaro 45th Anniversary Edition. Image: © GM Corp.
For years, V-6 engines have been built the same way. The heads bolt to the engine block, and the exhaust manifolds bolt to the heads; the design has been proven for the past hundred years or so, so why mess with a good thing? Fortunately for us, the engineers working on Chevrolet’s V-6 engines aren’t satisfied with the status quo, so they’ve designed a better mousetrap. By casting the exhaust manifold into the aluminum head, Chevy’s e…

Video: How the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro V6 makes 323-hp, 30 mpg highway

We already know that the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro V6 models make more power – rated at 323-hp (an increase of 11 over the 2011 engine) while makes no compromise to fuel-economy. How does it do that?
Here’s what GM says:
Each integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head – a V6 has two — replaces a cast iron exhaust manifold, six bolts, a gasket and a heat shield and three bolts. By eliminating this joint, the potential for a gasket failure is eliminated. And the change reduces engine weig…

Class of ’86 – Chevrolet Camaro Z28 and IROC-Z

Apologies for returning to the bowtie brand so soon after the Cavalier Z24, but we can’t highlight that Chevrolet model in the Class of 1986 without making mention of its big brothers, the Camaro Z28 and Camaro IROC-Z. Though still derided by some in the collector car world, the third-generation Camaros have an active and vocal enthusiast base, as we recently saw when we highlighted one for a Hemmings Find of the Day.
Having learned its lesson after dropping and quickly r…

Scott Burgess: 2011 Camaro Convertible gleams with a glare

Global warming is a myth. At least when it’s the end of April in Michigan and I’m holding the keys to a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible. The only day it didn’t pour frigid rain was the day I gave this gorgeous convertible back. Spring comes late in Michigan.

Rent, Lease, Sell or Keep: 2002 Chevrolet Camaro

The eyes were covered in a yellowish puss-like film. Jaundice? Nope, bad seals from the factory had made the headlights brittle and useless. Almost like old fly paper but without the elasticity. The leather seats up front were all cracked and peeling. Rear speakers were out. The alarm system had a mind of it’s [...]
