GM Will Continue Selling W-Body Impala For Fleet Buyers

Last week, we engaged in some speculation about the future of GM’s Oshawa, Ontario assembly plant, noting that the only two confirmed products the plant produces are 1) not necessarily high-volume models, and 2) are already going to be built elsewhere along with Oshawa.  Today, on the occasion of the new 2014 Impala’s launch event in San Diego, GM told us one of the ways they’ll keep Oshawa humming for the next year or two:  they’ll keep making the old W-Body Impala, but i…

Good News For Pickup Buyers: 2014 Ram 1500 Getting Small Turbodiesel

2013 Ram 1500 – image: Chrysler Group LLC
While diesel engines in pickup trucks are nothing new, most models that come packing oil-burning engines fall into the “heavy duty” category, with commensurate price tags. If you’re the type who routinely pulls heavy loads, or racks up serious mileage in the name of work, such an expense might make sense. If you’re the average homeowner who pulls a modest boat or camper, such smoke-belching behemoths can be hard to justify.
Enter the 2014 Ram 1500 …

Thread of the Day: Will the Kia Cadenza Make an Impact on Full-Size Sedan Buyers?

It seems like we’ve been hearing about the Kia Cadenza for years, and it’s finally here. The 2014 Cadenza, which is mechanically related to the Hyundai Azera, replaces the long-gone Kia Amanti and will fit above the Optima SX in size, but below the rumored Quoris sedan – if the U.S. market ever gets that [...]

Safe Volvo Has Buyers With Highest Credit Scores

It has been said that you can tell a lot about someone by what kind of car they drive. The credit rating agency Experian conducted a study to find out which drivers have the best and worst credit scores based on what kind of car that they drive.
Interestingly enough, Volvo places at the top on this list. It was followed by Lexus, Acura, Audi, In…

Two Buyers Vying For Stake In Aston Martin

Aston Martin Vanquish – image: Aston Martin
Aston Martin may soon find itself stuck between a rock and a hard place. Unlike most ultra-luxury rivals, Aston Martin lacks the strength of a full-line vehicle family. Take Bentley as an example; its fuel-economy numbers will be tempered by other products in the Volkswagen Group family, ensuring that the brand will meet upcoming CAFE requirements. As a stand-alone manufacturer, Aston Martin seriously needs a more diverse (and more fuel-efficient) produc…

Coda’s Offering a Charge at No Extra Charge to Buyers

With a record assortment of electrified automobiles becoming available to consumers, the process for selling vehicles incorporating such high-tech is starting with some hiccups. Appearing more expensive than traditional cars with internal combustion engines, no major auto company has been successful in presenting an electric vehicle with a price under $30,000 (though the Smart EV would recently limbo under the mark). Government tax incentives worth up $10,000 has been proving to be placed one…

High prices are driving used-car buyers into new-car showrooms

Buying used cars has long been a common strategy to save money. But now shoppers are being squeezed between higher-than-usual used car prices and a growing selection of increasingly fuel-efficient new cars.

That’s the conclusion of a new poll released by Kelley Blue Book (pdf). When asked if higher used-car prices have prompted them to consider purchasing new instead, a simple majority (53 percent) said, “Yes.” Another 44 percent said they had considered a new car over a used model because of fuel eco…
