* Jeep never made a stepside CJ-based pickup, correct. The Scrambler was a fleetside, unibody (that is, cab and bed were integrated, not body and frame) pickup. But some enterprising Southern California dealer did build a stepside CJ-based pickup in the 1970s and called it the Gaucho. Now Jeepforum member jscherb has set about replicating a Gaucho, incorporating some select upgrades along the way, and has documented the entire 8-month process on the forum.
