First Driving Impressions: RS4 Cabriolet

By James Wong

Despite having only driven the RS4 Cabriolet for a little less than 30 minutes, memories of the exquisite car still linger in my mind – 3 months later. Although it did not fully satiate my expectations of an RS, it did however excel at what it is made for.
Let’s put the cards on [...]

F1: Todt to tell teams of local GP nation ‘protocols’

FIA president Jean Todt will respond to the lingering saga following
incidents involving Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber during the 2010
Australian GP event.
Lewis Hamilton was charged by local Victorian police for doing a burnout on
his way out of the Albert Park circuit late on Friday, prompting Mark
Webber to slam the “nanny state” that now exists in Australia.
Following high-level meetings in Australia on Tuesday, race promoter Ron
Walker said Todt will respond by informing teams about the “protocol” …

F1: Button on top in action-packed Australian race

Button ‘op’ top of action-packed race down under
Once again Lady Luck abandoned Sebastian Vettel, this time a faulty wheel
nut decided the outcome of the race, and ended the aspirations of the 22-
year old German Red Bull driver, who ended up in the gravel trap at Turn 13
after he hit the brakes on lap 26 of the Australian Grand Prix. Vettel was
in command of the race from the moment the lights turned to green, and
without this unfortunate incident, he surely would have won the race.
Vettel’s Australian …

The Chevy SXSW Road Trip Highlight Reel

One of the best things about this month’s Chevrolet SXSW Road Trip Challenge was following the eight teams from across the nation as they tackled offbeat challenges on their way to Austin, Texas, for the SXSW Conference. And, along the way, there was some world-class smack talk exchanged between the teams.
We were fortunate enough to talk to some of the teams before the Road Trip kicked off and we’ve collected some of the best bits here for you to enjoy.
Sure, there’s some good-natured trash talk, …

South Africa Unveils Test Array in Bid for World’s Most Powerful Radio Telescope

Australia and South Africa contend to host the SKA ‘scope
Like nations pitching the International Olympic Committee for a chance to host the games, South Africa and Australia are in a heated contest to lure the internationally funded Square Kilometer Array (SKA) to their own respective stomping grounds. And while Australia already has its first precursor antenna up and running, South Africa responded in kind today, unveiling the MeerKAT Precursor Array (MPA) radio telescope today.
Previously known as KAT…

Yard-Long Undersea Bug Terrorizes Robo-Sub, Internet

This monstrosity surfaced on the Web this week, after first surfacing attached to a remotely operated undersea survey sub. While this 2.5-foot specimen is indeed more monstrous than most of its species, it’s really just a harmless, friendly giant isopod, a sea scavenger that dwells in the deep, cold waters of the oceans.
Resembling giant woodlice, isopods are oceanic bottom-feeders, dining mostly on whale carcasses and the like. The vast majority of them are found at depths below 1,200 feet, so they are…

Touchdown Soyuz

ISS Expedition 22 astronauts Jeff Williams and Maxim Suraev returned from the station via Soyuz capsule earlier this month, and NASA photographer Bill Ingalls captured the decisive moment. Great shot.
Without the soft cushioning of a water landing, Russia’s Soyuz capsules have traditionally parachuted home to the frozen soil of Kazakhstan. Retro-rockets fire just before impact, but nonetheless, I bet that jolt is the rudest reminder possible that you are now, once again, a subject of Earthly gravity. W…
